Description

The purpose of the seminar is to highlight the beneficial role of exercise in promoting women’s health during pregnancy. The biological and functional adaptations of the female organism are presented as well as the contribution of exercise to the prevention and treatment of pathological conditions such as Gestational Diabetes Mellitus, the most common complication during pregnancy. The international guidelines regarding the prescription of exercise are also mentioned so that exercise during pregnancy to be safe and effective. It is also emphasized that the exercise should be modified to the needs of the pregnancy and individualized to the needs of each pregnant woman. At the same time, theory is connected with practice and the planning and implementation of exercise programs during pregnancy and in Gestational Diabetes Mellitus are presented.

Workshop Instructor: Dimitra Savvaki, PhD, Professor of Physical Education, Specialized Professional Exercise and Health

Dimitra Savvaki holds a PhD degree from the Department of Physical Education and Sport Science of Democritus University of Thrace with specialization in exercise during pregnancy in healthy women and women with gestational diabetes mellitus. Academic Fellow at the Department of Early Childhood Education and Care of the IEPCE. Associate at the Unit of Reproductive Endocrinology, Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Under the supervision and guidance of the Laboratory of Clinical Exercise Physiology of T.E.F.A.A.-DUTh., she conducted the first interventional research projects on exercise during pregnancy in Greece. Creator of mummy to be training® (exercise and pregnancy) and mummy training® (exercise during postpartum & exercise mom and infant). The mummy to be training® and mummy training® programmes have been applied to pregnant women since 2002 and were the first to be carried out for 7 years with the approval of the General Secretariat of Sport. She participates as an invited speaker in undergraduate and postgraduate study programs as well as in conferences and seminars.
