Neurological Diseases and Exercise


The aim of the course is to present the effects of exercise on the mechanisms and symptomatology of neurological diseases and disorders such as Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, stroke, dementia and cerebral palsy. In particular, the mechanisms of the above neurological disorders, the symptomatology and the impact on the health and quality of life of patients, the clinical and laboratory methods of evaluating movement problems with emphasis on gait analysis, the various interventions for the treatment of the disorders and their symptoms, with emphasis on exercise both as a means of preventing the above disorders and for their treatment with the aim of improving the physical condition and quality of life of patients will be presented. The above knowledge and skills will enable students to design special protocols and implement specialized exercise programs for people with neurological diseases.
